# Why do I need to provide a selfie and personal ID to open an Upside Account?

Where you are requested to provide a selfie and copy of your Passport or Driving License, is because we could not verify the personal information provided during registration.  
We need to verify your details for the following reasons:  
  
*   To meet UK Banking* and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA**) regulations
  
*   To prevent identity theft and/or misuse of your personal information
  
*   To ensure you meet our eligibility criteria
  
*   To check if any international sanctions prevent you from having an account with us
